Bush Basil

Ocimum minimum

Where can we see it in Lisbon?

The bush basil is a plant that is part of the Portuguese tradition associated with the festivities of the Popular Saints, and it can be bought at all the local markets all along the month of June.

According to tradition, on Saint Anthony’s day, the lovers should offer one another a bush basil decorated with a colourful paper flower and a slight flag where a little love poem is written.

Besides having a very pleasant fragrance, it is also a great natural bug repellent.
